Both Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Low Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF) are eligible under CORSIA for offsetting emissions in international aviation, supporting the coexistence of conventional and renewable fuels. Policies favor LCAF to reduce aviation sector emissions. To achieve the required Carbon Intensity (CI) for LCAF, refineries might: - Minimize blending hydrocracked Jet into the final Jet pool or decarbonize hydrocracker emissions (including H₂ supply). - Process low carbon footprint crude, such as Saudi crude, known for its low CI. - Capture CO₂ from process and utility heaters (clean steam & power) and Steam Methane Reforming (blue H₂). - Combine some of these options.
